I’ve decided to postpone the Burnish Pringle Bay retreat until 14 -16th April 2021. I have had doubts expressed about rising Covid infections and the difficulty of social distancing. I am still available to work with individuals on their writing, either in my workshop in Green Point or online. I am sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.
Professor Brenda Cooper
I am running a three- day writing retreat in Pringle Bay from the 8th to the 10th of December this year. For three days and two nights, participants will present their works in progress and receive constructive feedback from me and from the others attending. I will provide written feedback after the retreat.
The retreat will begin with my academic writing methodology. Each evening there will be an informal discussion around the topics of:
- the crafting of beautiful academic prose and
- the question of academic writing as ‘Being Difficult?’ rather than accessible.
In the final round-up session we will consider beginnings and endings: the lost opportunity of introductions and conclusions.
A maximum of six participants will be accepted on a first-come basis.
To secure a place, please attach your work in progress of not more than 7000 words, which will be pre-circulated. There will be a discussant from within the group for each paper.
The fee of R7000 per person will include three light lunches, two dinners, tea, coffee and muffin breaks. Participants will be responsible for their own travel arrangements, accommodation and breakfasts.
Pringle Bay is 85 kms from the centre of Cape Town and 70 kms from Cape Town International Airport. There are many Bed and Breakfast and Airbnb options in the Pringle Bay area.
